💡 Brightness to Lux Estimator (Placeholder)

Convert perceived brightness into estimated lux values. This placeholder tool demonstrates the concept and will be expanded with real formulas soon.

Understanding Brightness and Lux

Lux is a unit that measures illuminance — the amount of light that hits a surface. It’s commonly used in lighting design, photography, workplace safety, and horticulture. Brightness, on the other hand, is how light is perceived by the human eye, which is subjective and not always directly equal to lux values.

1. What is lux?

Lux measures lumens per square meter. A typical office might have 300–500 lux, while direct sunlight can exceed 100,000 lux.

2. Why convert brightness to lux?

  • Photography: Helps set exposure correctly.
  • Workspaces: Ensures proper lighting for safety and comfort.
  • Gardening: Determines if plants receive enough light indoors.

3. Limitations of this placeholder

This calculator currently uses a mock formula. Actual conversion depends on device-specific calibration, sensor data, and context (screen brightness vs. ambient light).

4. Future improvements

We plan to add proper formulas, user-selectable light sources (LED, fluorescent, sunlight), and conversion to other units such as lumens and foot-candles.
